One out of every 21 jobs in the Sacramento area is a green job, according to new research from the Brookings Institue, making the California city the third highest provider of green opportunities in the nation.

The Institute analyzed cities nationwide and found that Sacramento has 37,319 clean jobs, or about 4.5 percent of the total jobs in the region.

Coming in at number one for green jobs was Albany, NY, where 6.3 percent of all jobs were green, and Knoxville, TN, where green jobs represent 4.9 percent of the workforce.

The Sacramento Bee reports that many of Sacramentos green jobs are in public conservation and regulatory agencies. Opportunities are also found in professional environmental services, recycling and public mass transportation.

Sacramento isnt the only California city making green waves. The Institutes study shows 11 California cities on the list of Top 100 Cities for clean energy jobs, including five Northern California cities.

Thanks to our states leadership in developing policies that foster this fast-growing industry, including a requirement that one-third of our states power come from renewables, as well as cutting-edge energy efficiency standards, it should be no surprise that California continues to be the world leader in clean energy, Californians for Clean Energy and Jobs co-Chair Tom Steyer said.
