Austins job numbers continue to skyrocket, landing it in first place on a recent job search trends survey.

The survey from job search engine Simply Hired analyzed hiring trends in metropolitan areas nationwide and found that jobs grew 6.6% in Austin last month.

On average, most areas saw their job numbers decline. Cities decreased job postings an average 2.6 percent from April to May, the report said.

BizJournals reports that a vast majority of cities reported less openings last month compared with April, while another nine locations experienced less than a 1 percent increase. Austin was ranked first for growth followed in order by West Palm Beach, Fla. (6.3 percent) and Albuquerque/Santa Fe, N.M. (4.1 percent).

Year over year the news was positive overall, as cities report increased openings of about 26.1 percent.

By industry, sales and finance saw the most growth, or about 64.1 percent and 34.8 percent, respectively.

For the report, Simply Hired analyzed data from its 8 million job listings and 16 million monthly users.
