A school bus in Atlanta dropped students for summer-school classes last week. A cheating scandal has embroiled the city’s education system.

ATLANTA—The interim superintendent of Atlanta’s public schools promised to reform the district and remove teachers and supervisors implicated in one of the nation’s biggest cheating scandals.

Erroll Davis Jr. removed the city’s four area superintendents as well as two principals this week, pending further investigation into cheating on standardized tests. At the same time, a former Atlanta deputy superintendent agreed to go on paid leave from a Texas school district that hired her earlier this year. <

While hiring managers across the nation are predicting an upsurge of jobs this summer, other metropolitan areas anticipate a downslide, according to a report released today by Forbes in partnership with Manpower.

ManpowerGroup surveyed more than 18,000 employers in 100 metropolitan areas to find out who’s hiring, who’s letting people go, and who plans to maintain their current staff levels in the third quarter of 2011, July through September.

Of the surveyed employers, 20% anticipate an increase in staffing levels in their second quarter hiring plans, while 8% expect a decrease in payrolls.

Forbes used the data to come up with its annual Best and Worst Cities for Summer jobs list.

An online for-profit college in California that serves mostly military service members is on the verge of losing its regional accreditation, for failing to ensure that students transferring in had fulfilled their general education requirements and, more importantly, for failing to tell the accreditor about the problem.

At its meeting last month, the senior college commission of the Western Association of Schools and Colleges voted to end the accreditation of Trident University International by March unless the institution’s officials can “demonstrate … why its accreditation should not be terminated,” the accrediting agency announced this week.

 A business card is a reflection of who you really are

I met with a very pleasant individual today and as we concluded our business, he handed me his card. At first quick glance, I noticed it had an interesting graphic and message. But, when I took a moment later to read the entire business card, I was horrified to see no less than four major spelling errors! Being an educator, I suspected he might be dyslexic and asked him a few questionsmy hunch was right. I pointed out the errors, and at the same time complemented him on the creative graphic, hoping to lessen his embarrassment.
