TeenForce, a non profit organization dedicated to employment opportunities for youth, today announced a partnership with The Terraces of Los Gatos, a retirement community in California, to help Silicon Valleys youth in foster care obtain part-time jobs.

To find eligible candidates for the jobs, TeenForce collaborated with EMQ FamiliesFirst (EMQFF) of Campbell and Silicon Valley Children’s Fund (SVCF).

EMQFF is California’s largest provider of behavioral health services for children in crisis and serves 60 foster youth in Santa Clara County.

Some of the hardest hit in today’s job market are people that had been in leadership and senior management roles. Many have had a very difficult time landing a new job and in many cases, the length of their unemployment has been exceptionally long.

Last month I wrote about The Top 7 Reasons Your Resume Sucks – I received a bunch of excellent feedback since then (thank you for the comments…and thank you for allowing me to take the negative stance!).

For student aid administrators, few factors are as seemingly unpredictable — and as important — as the cohort default rate, which measures how many students default on their loans in the first years after graduation.

Next year, when the government starts measuring the percentage of student borrowers who default on their loans in the first three years after entering repayment, rather than the two currently used for measurement, those rates, which help determine which colleges’ students are eligible for federal financial aid programs, are expected to increase for many institutions.

Recently I’ve added another dimension to my practice that I find extremely challenging and rewarding; helping United States military officers, enlisted personnel and those in the reserves with their transition from the armed forces into the business world.

What I have found as my main challenge, and theirs as well, is whereas most people I work with have gone through the job search process at least once (if not multiple times) in the past 5-25 years, most men and women transitioning from the military have been steadily working in the service of their country for the past ten to thirty years and are totally unfamiliar with how to write a resume, identify their core business values, network, and search for a job in today’s job market.

On the bright side, according to what I’ve read and heard in many business circles is that corporate employers now value the tangible and intangible skills found in veterans above those possessed by job seeking civilians. Altho
